THOMAS & FRIENDS: BLUE MOUNTAIN MYSTERY THE MOVIE
Cert U
70 mins
BBFC advice: Contains no material likely to offend or harm

For years I have longed for the day that I would review a children's movie with one of its target audience.
Then it happened... this was the first full film I enjoyed with our beautiful granddaughter.
Well, she 'enjoyed' it in the loosest sense of the word - she is only four months old.
But, while she obviously could not follow its story, she did maintain attention for much of its 70 minutes.
And that is the knack of the makers of the Thomas films - their young audiences have been riveted for decades.
In Greg Tiernan's re-released Blue Mountain Mystery, there is plenty of colour, a pull-through song and a plot which is intriguing and easy to understand.
Narrated by Michael Angelis, it is set in a quarry where a bridge has collapsed.
Thomas is sent to help in the clean-up effort and happens across an elusive small green engine who everyone denies knowledge of.
So what is his background and will he become Thomas's friend?
As with all Thomas tales, this is breathless with our favourite blue tank engine darting across Sodor at breakneck speed to accomplish his various missions.
Meanwhile, he hopes, as always, to avoid any confrontations with the Fat and Thin Controllers (both voiced by Keith Wickham).
There is also an earworm song and it all adds up to a happy hour which we hope will be the first of many with our little angel.

Reasons to watch: An engaging Thomas tale
Reasons to avoid: Not too exciting for adults

Laughs: None
Jumps: None
Vomit: None
Nudity: None
Overall rating: 6/10

Did you know?
The first Thomas products were sold in 1957 and consisted of cardboard kits for children to put together. The engines included Thomas, Percy, Gordon, and James.
