KAGUYA-SAMA: LOVE IS WAR - THE FIRST KISS THAT NEVER ENDS

BBFC advice: Contains moderate sex references
Follow-up episodes to a popular Japanese anime came to British cinemas for one night only and went a bit over my head.
I knew of neither the characters nor the plot of Shinichi Omata's Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War - The First Kiss That Never Ends that was clearly aimed at a market of teenagers.
I did like the repeated use of an earworm theme tune but confess that I struggled to invest otherwise.
As in the TV series, the film stars Aoi Koga as the voice of Kaguya Shinomiya, the vice-president of the student council.
Miyuki Shirogane (Makoto Furukawa) is the council's president and the two become embroiled in very gradual and awkward love.
Typical of the genre, there is a lot of shouting and some elements which are surprisingly suggestive, given the age of the potential audience.
I could attempt to write more but being a fan of the TV series or understanding the story arc is essential to understanding it.
I fear my lack of fundamental knowledge base would leave the review well short.
However, I will say that there was no attempt to impress those seeking a one-off movie.

The final word. Producer Tatsuya Ishikawa: "Kaguya's story is very Japanese, very esoteric. It's quite surprising to me that it resonates so much globally. And yet, seeing the boundaries between Japan and overseas disappearing makes me very happy." Game Press
