BBFC advice: Contains mild bad language, bereavement theme

Isn't it weird how, for most people, life has just picked up where it left off before the Covid epidemic as if nothing happened?
And yet the harsh restrictions, including government lockdowns, were only fully lifted two years ago.
Kadina Kadoramee Andakadaham takes us back to the early days of the pandemic when messages were mixed and people were bewildered.
And it highlights the drive of one ambitious young man (Basil Joseph) to use the new normal as a springboard out of poverty.
Joseph's character, Bachu, finds a manufacturer of cheap face masks and decides he will sell them on by the thousand at a significant markup.
He ropes his pals into the enterprise, hoping it will help him make enough money to avoid having to follow in his father's footsteps to the Gulf for work.
Meanwhile, his mum (Sreeja Ravi) needs heavy convincing that he is on the right path.
This is with good reason because Bachu finds there is no such thing as an easy fast buck and, indeed, the consequence of his dodgy deal is debt and danger.
I was intrigued by Muhashin's movie but it needed sticking with during a prolonged first hour when little happens.
The film takes a turn after the family is beset by tragedy and their coastal community knits together in the face of adversity.
It is interesting to see people fumbling through the pandemic but I was never invested enough in its key characters.

The final word. Muhashin: "If this movie had a superstar in the lead, it would have run in his name. When that happens, the movie becomes more than the story. We had in fact prayed that this movie won’t have a star as we wanted people to focus on the story alone." OTT Play
