THE CURSE OF ROSALIE
Cert 15
115 mins
BBFC advice: Contains strong violence, threat, scene of suicide
The brief description on Amazon of The Curse Of Rosalie describes it in three words "horror", "serious" and "tense".
If this was the intention of director, writer and lead actor Will Klipstine, the reality is that it is badly acted hokum.
However, if he intended as comedy it partially worked because it is so ludicrous I laughed out loud three times.
Seriously, it is a mystery how this film made it to cinema screens in the UK.
It centres on the desperation of parents Daniel (Klipstone) and Theresa (Amanda MacDonald) over their young daughter, Rosalie (Madeleine McGraw).
The girl has been possessed by a demon and they are prepared to go to great lengths to rid her of the curse.
Thus, they arrive in a town of picket fences on the doorstep of traditional Native American grounds and the home of a sage (Irene Bedard) who may help them.
Meanwhile, any locals who might upset little Rosalie wind up wishing they hadn't.
The Curse of Rosalie is beset with cliches - from the Exorcist-like possession of the girl to the knick-knacks that are either supposed to ward off evil or invite it in.
And then there is the mix of flashbacks to happier days and to the long-distant past.
It all adds up to a bizarre and cringeworthy mess.

Did you know? Satan first became a proper name in the New Testament where he is described has being the enemy of Jesus Christ and humankind.
The final word. Will Klipstine: "Ultimately the film is about how far a parent would go for a child, and apparently the answer is they would literally face the devil lol. But that theme is baked into a slow burn mystery/supernatural/thriller…with lots of twists." The Knockturnal
